What does Stacked and Unstacked coverage mean?
Stacked and Unstacked coverage both apply to Uninsured Motorist and Underinsured Motorist
coverages. You have the option of choosing either Stacked or Unstacked coverage for your
household's car insurance policy.
Stacked Coverage
Choosing Stacked Coverage multiplies your coverage limit by the number of vehicles
in your policy. For instance, assume you choose an Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Liabililty
coverage of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per incident. With Stacked Coverage and 3
cars on your policy you are covered for $300,000 per person and $900,000 per incident for
bodily injury claims if you are hit by an uninsured driver.
Unstacked Coverage
Choosing Unstacked Coverage means that the coverage limits you select are the coverage limits
you have regardless of the number of cars on your policy. For instance, assume you choose
an Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Liability coverage of $100,000 per person and $300,000
per incident. With Unstacked Coverage and 3 car on your policy, you are covered for
$100,000 per person and $300,000 per incident for bodily injury claims if you are hit by an
uninsured driver.
